Q1) Watch the diagram carefully and answer the following questions: -
a) The pith ball was initially at position A.
When a glass rod after rubbing with silk is
brought near it moves to B. State the reason.
b) After touching the glass rod the pith ball
moves back to C. State the reason.

Answer:

a) The pith ball moves to B because , after rubbing the glass rod with silk it acquired positive charge . So the suspended ball acquires a charge by coming in contact with the charged rod .

b) After touching the glass rod the pith ball moves back to C because after coming in contact with the glass rod , it shares it's charge with the pith ball and both have the same so they repel .

This is an illustration of charging by contact or conduction
