Q1) What is the difference between a Mitchondrion and a Plastid ?
Q2) What is the difference between :-
i) RER and SER
ii) Amoeba and Hydra
iii) Lecuoplast and Chromoplast
Q3) What are cilia and flagella ?
Answers
Answer:
Explanation:
1. Mitochondria is known as power house of the cell whereas the Plastids are known as the kitchen of the cell. 2. Mitochondria produces energy in the form of ATP whereas Plastids manufacture food i.e., photosynthesis. Plastids occur only in plant and algae cells, but mitochondria are found in all eukaryotic cells.
2. i) The main difference lies between the SER and RER is the presence of ribosomes, as SER do not have ribosomes but RER have ribosomes. SER mainly produce and export lipids and protein and function for detoxification, while RER produces, secrete and export proteins and few hormones.
ii) amoeba is a unicellular organism whereas hydra is a multicellular organism. amoeba reproduces by binary fission whereas hydra reproduces by budding and regeneration.
iii. Leucoplast refers to a colorless organelle found in plant cells, used for the storage of starch or oil, while chromoplast refers to a colored plastid other than a chloroplast, typically containing a yellow or orange pigment. Thus, this is the main difference between leucoplast and chromoplast.
3. Cilia and flagella are projections from the cell. They are made up of microtubules , as shown in this cartoon and are covered by an extension of the plasma membrane. They are motile and designed either to move the cell itself or to move substances over or around the cell.
