Ans. 1Gulliver was imprisoned by the Lilliputians when he first reached the island because they were frightened by his massive size. Moreover, even if he changed sides or walked around, they could be easily trampled under his feet, so for their own safety, they made him a captive. When he woke up from his sleep and found himself bound from all sides, unable to move, he tried to loosen his strings. As soon as they saw him moving, they shot a volley of arrows to stop him. He thought it wise to lay there without moving.

Ans 2 Despite their diminutive size, Lilliputians show a high sense of hospitality towards Gulliver. They ensured that he was fed well and had enough drinks, though it was too much for them to arrange for his food. He alone ate as much as it sufficed for seven hundred and twenty people there. They also showed their consent to Gulliver's request for freedom and granted him liberty on certain conditions to ensure their safety. They also used his power and strength to gain control over their enemy nation Blefuscu. They had their own systems of selecting ministers, education for children and other administrative affairs which show their ingenuity.
