Answer:

An incredible question.

See history is not necessary in terms of social sciences but in fact in the aspects of true sciences it is very important.

But for a second lets focus simply on the social perspective.

We humans have a deep desire to find meaning in things. Just like you do. Why do I have to study history?

Similarly we want to find out precisely why is our society structured the way it is? How did it come to be this way?

What went wrong and what exactly went right.

Early civilisations formed a society very primitive in structure they had no complex social hierarchies. This helps us answer some very basic questions about us today as well. Why do make friends and have families and even answer bigger question like how does the government truly rule/help us. History is very noble and important this way.

And at the end of the day are we all not trying to find meaning in our lives.

(You might not find meaning in history the way some people do but thats okay you find something you like and contribute in that way)
