Ashoka was the first disposed to follow the exame of his father and grandfather
and complete the conquest of the Indian Paninsula He invaded kalings on the coast

conquerors, he was so disgusted by the cruelty and orror of war that he renounce
it. He would have no more of it. He adopted the peaceful doctorines of Buddhism
and declared that hence forth the conquests should be the conquests or religion.
His reign of eight and twenty years was one of the brightest enterludes in the
troubled history of mankind.​
