Given:-

Sum of father and sun age=65 years

Twice difference of there age=50 years

To Find:-

Present age of father=?

Method Used:-

Substitution method.

Solution:-

Let present age of father be x

Let present age of son be y

x+y=65 ...(1)

2x-2y=50

2(x-y)=50

x-y=25 ...(2)

From ...(2)

x-y=25

x=25+y ...(3)

Substituting ..(3) in ..(2)

25+y+y=65

25+2y=65

2y=65-25

2y=40

y=40/2

y=20 ...(4)

Substituting ...(4) in ...(1)

x+20=65

x=65-20

x=45

Present age of father is 45 years.

Present age of son is 20 years.
