Because it IST is in mid point of the country, and it is divisible by 7*30'

Answer:

It is because while going from East to West or West to East. We would have to regularly change the time of a watch. Hence Indian government decided to take 82 1/2° E as the Indian Standard Time to avoid the changing of time regularly.
