Q13An object starts from rest and is uniformly accelerated so that its speed is 60 m/s after
20s. If it travels
with this speed for 40 s and is then brought to rest by a uniform retardation in 30 s. Sketch
the
velocity-time graph and calculate the acceleration, the retardation and the total distance
travelled.

Explanation:

( i ) Given,

speed = 60 m/s

Time = 20 sec

speed = distance / time

60 = distance /20

60×20 = distance

1200 m/s = distance

(ii) Given,

speed = 40 m/s

Time = 30 m/s

speed = distance / time

40 = distance /30

40×30 = distance

1200 = distance

The total distance travelled = 1200+1200

= 2400 m/s

The total time taken = 20 +30

= 50
