A student has to obtain 33% marks of the total marks to pass. He has got 125 marks and failed by 40
marks. Find the maximum marks.

Let passing marks be 33% of the total marks

And, let total or maximum marks be x

He got 125 marks and failed by 40 marks…(given)

Then,

33% of total marks=125+40

33% of x= 165

33/100 *x=165

x=165*100/33

x=5*100

x=500
