Q15. Rita goes 240 km towards east from a point A to the point B. From B, she moves 190 km towards west along the same road. If the distance towards east is represented by a positive integer then, how will you represent the distance travelled towards west? By which integer will you represent her final position from A?

Answer:

                <----------190km (west)

A-------------C----------------------> B

---------240km (east)--------->

Since the distance towards east is represented by a  +ve integer, the distance towards west can be represented as a  -ve integer.

Rita travelled 240km towards east from A to reach B, then she travelled along the same road toward west(opposite direction) for 190km to reach C.

Since we represent distance towards east as +ve and distance towards west as -ve, the final position C from A is,

240 - 190 = 50

the final position from A is +50 km (towards east)
