Time of a place is mainly depends on longitude which especially passes through the process. Standard time in each of the country varies as time of the central meridian passes through that country.

India has longitudinal extent so that when meridians pass through it then it would adopt local time in central meridian of country. We need the standard meridian for country.

Each country has several Meridian of longitude and hence the local time . In order to avoid confusion of time each country has its own Standard Time . In India 82 ½ longitude is taken as the standard time. The local time of this Meridian is taken as the standard time throughout the country.
