  • Let the age of Sunil be x years

So, the age of Sushila is 4x years

According to the question,

Five years ago Sushil was 7 times as old as Sunil was then

Thus, both ages 5 years ago

  • Sunil = (x-5) years

  • Sushila = (4x - 5) years

Now, ATQ

Equation will be

⇒ (4x - 5) = 7(x - 5)

⇒ 4x - 5 = 7x - 35

⇒ 35 - 5 = 7x - 4x

[By transporting (-35) to LHS and (4x) to RHS]

⇒ 30 = 3x

⇒ 30 ÷ 3 = x

[By transporting 3 to LHS]

⇒ 10 = x

Hence,

  • Age of Sunil is = x years = 10 years
  • Age of Sushila = 4x = 4*10 = 40 years.

30/3 = x

Now,
