FILTHY AIR: Without trees, humans would not be able survive because the air would be unsuitable for breathing. If anything, people would have to develop gas masks that filter the little oxygen that would be left in the air.

If they simply stop photosynthesis and do not turn carbon dioxide into oxygen, then they will stop producing sugars. Hence they will run out of tree sap, and will have no more sugar to breakdown for energy. This means all plants will die and new plants will never grow. In the meantime, all other life on earth will slowly suffocate, or die of hunger. Depends whether the plants will die first or the oxygen levels drop too low for lungs to effective.
