Q19. In a potato race, a bucket is placed at the starting point, which is 5 m from the first potato, and the other potatoes are placed 3 m apart in a straight line. There are ten potatoes in the line (see Figure.) A competitor starts from the bucket, picks up the nearest potato, runs back with it, drops it in the bucket, runs back to pick up the next potato, runs to the bucket to drop it in, and she continues in the same way until all the potatoes are in the bucket.
From the above situation , answer the following question.

Q19-(i)How much distance run by a competitor to drop the nearest potato into the bucket ?Q19-(ii) How much distance run by a competitor to drop the second potato in to the bucket ?Q19-(iii) Write the distances covered by competitor to drop first ,second, third,….potato in to the bucket ? (Write A. P.)Q19-(iv) The number pattern formed here is an A.P ? (Yes , No)19-(v) What is the distance run by the competitor to drop tenth potato in to the bucket

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

q19.

1.The distances of potatoes from the bucket are 5,8,11,14…

Distance run by the competitor for collecting these potatoes are two times of the distance at which the potatoes have been kept. Therefore, distances to be run are

10,16,22,28,34,……….

a=10,d=16−10=6

To find: S10

S10=210[2(10)+(10−1)6]

=5[20+54]

=5(74)

=370

Answer:

Distance covered by the competitor is first pick,

= 2 × 5 = 10 m.

Distance covered by the competitor in second pick,

= 2 × (5 + 3 × 1) = 2 × 8 = 16 m

Distance covered by the competitor in third pick,

= 2 × (5 + 3 × 2)

= 2 × (5 + 6)

= 64 m

Similarly, distance covered by the 10th pick.

= 2 × (5 + 3 × 9)

= 2 × (5 + 27)

= 64 m.

Let S be the total distance covered by the competitor.

a = 10, d = 16 - 10 = 6

n = 10, l = 64

S(10) = 10/2[10 + 64]

= 5 × 74

= 370 m

Hence, the total distance covered by the competitor is 370 m.
