One of the parallel sides =24cm

Let the length of the other parallel sides be x cm

Also, area of the trapezium =480 sq. cm

Distance between the parallel sides =8cm

∴ Area of a trapezium =1/2 x (a+b) x h

∴480=1/2 x (24+x) x 8

⇒480=96+4x

⇒480−96=4x

⇒4x=384

⇒x= 384/4

=96cm

Thus the length of the other parallel side is 96cm

\bigstar Given:

\gg The area of a Trapezium is 48cm².

\gg One of its parallel sides is 12 cm.

\gg The distance between the parallel sides is 6 cm.

\bigstar To Find:

The length of the other parallel side.

\bigstar Solution:

Formula to find the area of a parallelogram = \dfrac{1}{2}\times(a+b)\times\:h

where, a and b are the two parallel sides and h is the distance between them.

In this question, the only unknown value is b. Substituting the values in the equation :

\sf{48=\dfrac{1}{2}\times(12+b)\times6}

\sf{48=3\times(12+b)}

\sf{48=36+3b}

\sf{3b=48-36}

\sf{3b=12}

\sf{b=\dfrac{12}{3}}

\sf{b=4}

Therefore, the length of the other parallel side of the trapezium is 4 cm.
