Q2. Out of a 940 km journey, a part of the journey was covered by a motor car at a speed of 72 km/hr. The remaining part of the journey was covered by train at a speed of 84 km/hr. If the total distance was covered in 12 hrs, find the distance travelled by the train and the time taken by it to cover that distance.

This question is from linear equations in 2 variables and this is from grade 10.

Answer:

distance=532km. time=19/3 hrs

Step-by-step explanation:

easy

let us

assume that the journey was taken between 2 points A and B

Now C is the point between A and B

such as Distance AC is the covered by car

and CB is the distance covered by train

we know that

speed = dist/time

let distance AC be x

therefore for car

72kmph= x/t1

now t1 = x/72 ---(i)

therefore for train

84kmph=(940-x)/t2

therefore t2=940-x/84 -----(ii)

the total journey was done in 12 hrs

therefore t1+t2=12

therefore

x/72 +940-x/84=12

now simplify it

you will get x=408 km

therefore CB i.e dist covered by train= 940-408= 532km

therefore time = 532/84=19/3 hrs
