Hello..
The kalangs were a community of skilled Forrest wood cutters and shifting cultivators .The kalangs of java were considered an important community because without their expertise it would have been very difficult to harvest teak for the king to build their palaces. They were so valuable that in 1775 the Mataram kingdom of java split the 6,000 kalang families and we're equally divided between the two kingdoms. When the Dutch began to gain control over the forests in eighteenth centuary, they tried to make kalangs work under them. In 1770, the kalangs resisted by attacking a Dutch fort Joanna. But the uprising was suppressed.
