     As the farmer continued using the insecticide, the insects gradually got used to its effects. Over time they began to develop immunity towards that insecticide and as a result the insecticide's effects on the insects began to reduce.

     This led to an increase in the population of the insects which were no longer affected by the insecticide. As a result the insecticide became less and less effective.
