Q2. The length of day and night is almost equal in Andaman and Nicobar Island while it is unequal in Himachal Pradesh. 'Explain.
Answers
Andaman nicobar and Himachal pradesh are located at different latitudes and at different locations from the equator. The day and night are nearly of the same duration at the equator but as we move away from the equator to the poles, the variations in duration of day and night become greater. Lengths of days and nights in the poles vary so greatly that they have a 6-month day(during summers) and a 6-month night(during winters). On the other hand, the equator has a fixed 12-hour day and night, and their lengths are not influenced by seasons. This is due to the fact that the Earth's axis is rotated.
Himachal pradesh is at 31°N latitude, which means that it is 31 degrees away from the equator or it is 31 degrees away from the area which receives direct sunlight. This difference is of about 5hrs in himachal pradesh while as andaman nicobar is quite near the equator at 11°7N & the day-night difference is hardly one hour there. So, there is a big day-night difference in himachal pradesh while the duration of day and night is hardly felt at Andaman nicobar
This is the reason that the difference between the durations of day and night is hardly felt in andaman nicobar but not so in himachal pradesh
Answer:
Andaman and Nicobar Islands are situated at a different latitude, compared to Himachal Pradesh. In addition to this, their distance from the equator varies too. Though the length of day and night is equal in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, but for states that are located far away from the equator a difference between the duration occurs.
