Answer:

Bigger is Better. Steroids are your friend. I had a soft spot in my heart for bad boy Lyle Alzado of the Raiders. A few years after he disappeared from the football spotlight I saw him in an anti-steroid program especially aimed at high schools & colleges. He was so frail, face all sunken. It was easy to believe he was dying. He said he was going to donate his brain for medical research into steroid abuse in sports. I rarely watch pro football now. I look at the artificially bulked-up players, and all I can see is Lyle dying.

For a sport like football, which has such a long and varied history, it is quite natural for myths and legends to become a part of its folklore.

These myths are taken to be true by the average reader/follower of the sport just because they have been repeated too many times.
