Q21. A percolation pipe is filled with soil A. Water (50ml) is then poured steadily onto the
surface of the soil.
(i) It takes 10minutes from the start of pouring for the water to disappear below the
surface of the soil. What is the percolation rate for soil A?

(ii) After the water has fully drained from the soil A, the sample is weighed. This wet
weight is 25.8g. After drying in an overnight, the soil sample is weighed again. The
dry weight is 22.3g. What is the water-holding capacity of the soil?
