Given that :-

  • Number of families is 40
  • Mean value of income of these families is 265 .
  • But income of one family was read 150 instead 115.

To Find :-

  • The correct mean .

Solution :-

\sf{\underline{\underline{\red{\implies \: Mean = \dfrac{ Sum \: of\ observation\}{Number\ of\ observations}  }}}}

\sf{\implies 265 = \dfrac{x}{40}}

\sf{\implies x = 264 \times 40 }

\sf{\implies x = 10600}

But we took a number 150 instead of 115

\sf{\implies Correct\ mean  = \dfrac{Sum\ -\ Wrong\ digit\ + Correct\ digit}{40} }

\sf{\implies Correct\ mean  = \dfrac{10600 - 150+ 115}{40}}

\sf{\implies Correct\ mean  = \dfrac{10565}{40}}

Correct Mean = 264.125 .
