Concept:

Exponent power rule, that means when we multiply the same bases then their powers are added, i.e. a²×a³=a⁵

Given:

Number of heads = 47

Number of legs = 142

Find:

We are asked to find the number of tigers & peacocks in the zoo.

Solution:

We have,

Number of heads = 47

Number of legs = 142,

Tiger has 4 legs and peacock has 2 legs.

Now,

Let, Number of tigers = x

Number of peacocks = y

So,

According to the question,

Number of heads = 47

x + y = 47     (i)

⇒ x = 47 - y     (ii)

And,

Number of legs = 142

4x + 2y = 142     (iii)

Now,

Substitute the value of x from equation (ii) in equation (iii),

4( 47 - y ) + 2y = 142

188 - 4y + 2y = 142

⇒ 2y = 188 - 142

2y = 46

y = 23

So, number of peacocks are 23.

Now,

Substitute the value of y in equation (ii),

We get,

x = 47 - 23

x = 24

So, number of tigers are 24.

Now,

It is necessary to conserve tigers and peacocks as the number of these animals is decreasing day by day.

Hence we can say that the number of tigers is 24 and the number of peacocks is 23.
