Q3) Among the 90 students in the dormitory, 35 owns an Automobile, 40 owns a Bicycle and 10
have both an Automobile and a Bicycle. Draw it on Venn Diagram and find the number of

Given :- Among the 90 students in the dormitory, 35 owns an Automobile, 40 owns a Bicycle and 10 have both an Automobile and a Bicycle.

To Find :-

(i) Do not have an automobile.

(ii) Have an automobile or a bicycle .

(iii) Have neither an automobile nor a bicycle.

(iv) Have an automobile or a bicycle, but not both.

Answer :-

from diagram we have,

→ Total students = 90

→ Students only have automobile = 25

→ Students only have bicycle = 30

→ Students have both automobile and bicycle = 10 .

so,

→ Number of students who do not have an automobile = Total students - Number of students have automobiles = 90 - (25+10) = 90 - 35 = 55 (Ans.)

and,

→ Number of students who have an automobile or a bicycle = 25 + 10 + 30 = 65 (Ans.)

also,

→ Number of students who have neither an automobile nor a bicycle = Total students - Number of students who have an automobile or a bicycle = 90 - 65 = 25 (Ans.)

and,

→ Have an automobile or a bicycle, but not both = Students only have automobile + Students only have bicycle = 25 + 30 = 55 (Ans.)
