Horizontal power sharing:
- It shares power between different organs of the government such as the legislature, executive and judiciary.
- Different organs of government exercise different powers.
- There is a concept of checks and balances in order to check the exercise of unlimited powers of the organs.
Vertical division of power:
- In this the power shared among government at different levels, like Union, state and local levels.
- In this constitution clearly lays down the power of different levels of the government.
- There is no checks and balances because, the powers are clearly given by the constitution from the higher level to the lower level.
