Step-by-step explanation:

Diagonals of a parallelogram intersects each other,

So,

x-y=5 .......eq.1

and,

x+y=9 .......eq.2

from eq.1

x=5+y now,put this equation in eq.2

5+y+y=9

5+2y=9

2y=9-5

2y=4

y=4/2

y=2

and x=5+y

=5+2

=7

therefore y=2 and x=7

as the diagonals of parallelogram bisect each other

therefore , x - y = 5 -------------(1)

and x + y = 9 -------------(2)

Adding eq. (1),(2)

(x-y)+(x+y)=5+9

=> x-y+x+y=14

=> 2x = 14

=> x = 7

Now putting the value of x in th (1) eq.

x - y = 5

=> 7 - y = 5

=> 7= 5 + y

=> 7 - 5 = y

=> 2 = y

Therefore the value of x and y are 7 and 2 .
