Given:

Suzan and Kerry decide to help flood victims. Suzan contributed as much money as the cube root of amount contributed by Kerry.

The sum of amount contributed by two friends is 1,010 Rs

To find:

The contribution of each friend

Solution:

Let x be the contribution of Kerry

Given that Suzan contributed as much money as the cube root of amount contributed by Kerry.

⇒ Suzan contribution = ∛x

Sum of the amount contributed by two friends = x + ∛x  

From given data x + ∛x  = 1010  

⇒ x + ∛x  = 1000 + 10

⇒ x + ∛x  = 1000 + ∛1000      [ ∵ ∛1000 = 10 ]

⇒ x = 1000 and  ∛x = 10

Therefore,

Contribution of Kerry = 1000 and Suzan' contribution = 10
