Find coefficient of x :

(i) 4x - 3y

  • Term with variable x = 4x
  • Coefficient of x in 4x = 4

4 is the coefficient of x in 4x - 3y

(ii) 8 - x + y

  • Term with variable x = ( -x )
  • Coefficient of x in ( -x ) = -1

-1 is the coefficient of x in 8 - x + y

(iii) yx - y

  • Term with variable x = yx
  • Coefficient of x in yx = y

y is the coefficient of x in yx - y

(iv) 22 - 5x²

Note that this expression doesn't have a term that has the variable x to the power of 1. So, we can rewrite the expression:

22 - 5x² + 0x

Here, x times 0 is 0, and zero is the additive identity, so, value of the expression will not change.

Coefficient of x is 0
