Q34
An electric iron is connected to the mains power supply of 220 V. When the electric iron is adjusted at 'minimum heating' it consumes a power of 360 W but at 'maximum heating' it takes a power of 840 W. Calculate the current and resistance in each case.

Explanation:

we know that Electrical power = V × I

1st case

given power , 360 w

360 w = 220 v x i

i = 360 /220

i = 18/11 amp.

i = 1.6 amp.

by ohms law

V = iR

220v = 360/220 × R

220 × 220 /360 = R

48400 /360 =R

R = 134.4 ohm

2nd

same as

P = V i

840w = 220 v × i

i = 3.81 amp.

by ohms law

V = iR

220v = 3.81 × R

R = 57.74 ohm
