Q4. A car traveling at an average speed of 72 km/hr takes 9 minutes to travel a certain distance. By how much should it increase its speed (in km/hr) to travel the same distance in 8 minutes?

Answer:

= 1st speed=distance/time

=72km/hr=distance/9min.

=distance=72km/hr × 9/60hr

=distance=10.8 km

Now, to travel the same distance in 8 minutes, we have

2nd speed=distance/time

= 2nd speed = 10.8km/8min

=2nd speed= (10.8 km×60)/8 hours

=2nd speed= 81km/hr

Thus,the car should increase its speed by : 2nd speed - 1st speed

= 81km/hr - 72km/hr

= 9km/hr
