Given :- Peter thinks of a number. He multiplies his number by 0.1 and then multiplies the answer by 0.01. He again multiplies the answer by 1.1 and gets a final answer of 1.1. What number did Peter think of at first ?
Solution :-
Let us assume that, peter think of the number is x .
Than,
→ first he multiply by x with 0.1, so he gets = 0.1 * x = 0.1x
than,
→ he multiply the result by 0.01 , he gets = 0.01 * (0.1x)
again,
→ he multiply the answer by 1.1 , he gets = 1.1 * 0.01 * (0.1x)
given that, he gets a final answer of 1.1 .
Therefore,
→ 1.1 * 0.01 * (0.1x) = 1.1
dividing both sides by 1.1,
→ 0.01 * 0.1x = 1
→ 0.001x = 1
→ (1/1000)x = 1
→ x = 1000 (Ans.)
Hence, Peter think of at first is 1000.
