4.

Given:

The monthly consumption of milk in family = 120 litres

Due to the festival,

Consumption of milk was increased by 20%

To Find:

The consumption of milk after the festival

Before, we have to find 20% of the 120 litres milk.

So,

20% of 120 litres

= 20/100×120

= 24 litres

Hence, 120 litres + 24 litres = 144 litres

So, The family consumption of milk after the festival is 144 litres

5.

Given:

The cost of the saree = ₹500

The discount given on saree = 20%

To find:

The cost of the saree after discount

Before we have to find the amount subtracted from saree, that is 20% of ₹ 500

So,

20% of ₹ 500

= 20/100×500

= ₹ 100

So,

₹ 100 was subtracted from ₹ 500

Cost of the saree after discount

= ₹500 - ₹ 100

= ₹400

Hence, The cost of the saree after the discount is ₹ 400
