also given that :

let it be    x = (2/3)(45-x)

let's solve it :

x = (90-2x)/3

⇒ 3x = 90-2x

⇒ 3x + 2x = 90

⇒ 5x = 90

⇒ x =(90)/5

⇒ x = 18

so one number is   x= 18;

other number = (45-x)

⇒ other number = ( 45 - 18)

by substituting value of x

⇒ other number = 27

we got two numbers . those are 18 and 27

smaller number between 18 and 27 is '18'

so smaller number is 18
