Q4). Wil force of friction come into play when a raindrop rois down a glass window
pane? If yes it is in which direction of the forces is friction applied

  • Yes, there will be friction between a rain drop and glass window plane. But as the window surface is smooth the frictional force is not so strong to hold the rain drop on window surface and thus rain drop rolls down.

Question: Will force of Friction comes into play a when a raindrop rolls down a glass window pane ?

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Answer

▫️Yes

Explanation

  • Always remember that force of friction acts where ever there is a contact between the two bodies may it be a chalk and board, table and a glass of water or a raindrop and a window glass pane as mentioned in the question.
  • But , the friction force is not much strong to hold the water droplet for too long time hence it somehow manages to slip from the Windows surface.

Direction of Friction force in Respective Case

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

  • Whatever the situation is friction force always acts in the opposite direction to the movement of object hence we can consider friction force as the opposing force.
  • The teeth of of body surface in contact is strongly attached to each other and whenever the force is applied in a particular direction let us assume it left show the friction force will act in the right direction thereby opposing the motion.

More about Friction

━━━━━━━━━━━━

  • Friction is a contact force.
  • It is further classified as rolling friction , static friction and kinetic friction followed by more types and subtypes.
  • Friction can be considered as a necessary evil. When applied at right time can prevent mishappenings but some time can be the cause of trouble if comes into play at at the wrong time.
