The frequency of sound heard by a man on a train, moving away from the church is 617.64 Hz.
A church bell rings at a frequency of 700 Hz every hour.
We have to find the frequency heard by a man on a train, moving away from the church at the speed of 40 m/s.
We have to use Doppler's effect,
If observer is moving away from the stationary source,
- Where f₀ is initial frequency.
- v is the speed of sound.
- v₀ is the speed of observer.
- f is apparent frequency observed by observer.
Here,
f₀ = 700 Hz, v = 340 m/s , v₀ = 40 m/s
∴ f = (340 - 40)/340 × 700
= 21000/34
= 617.64 Hz
Therefore the frequency of sound heard by man on a train is 617.64Hz.
