(Question based on: GENETICS)

\LARGE{\underline{\boxed{\bf{\blue{Required\:Answer:}}}}}

A normal human cell is diploid whuch means it have 23 pair of chromosomes i.e. 46 chromosomes. Out of these:

  • 22 pairs (44) are autosomes.
  • 1 pair (2) is a sex chromosome.

But a sex cell/gamete is haploid which means, it have 23 chromosomes (not in pairs!). It is having only one set of chromosome out of the pair.

These haploid pairs fuse to form the zygote (after fertilization). Thus, the correct option is Option A (23)

  • The normal human cell or non-reproductive cells is known as somatic cells.

  • The gametes are formed as a result of meosis, hence the no. of chromosomes reduced to half.
