What is Adjective ?

→ Adjectives are describing words. They tell us what kind of, how many, how much, what colour, etc, person, places, animals and things are.For Example :

  • Anu likes spicy food.
  • I give her a red rose.
  • Alok won three prizes.

– Kinds of Adjective :-

1) Adjective of Quality.

→ An adjectives which tells us of what kind of person or thing is, is called an adjective of quality.

An Adjective of quality answers the question : what kind of ? For Example :

  • I met an old man with grey hair.
  • Suman is wearing a new dress.
  • Grandmother told us a funny story.

2) Adjective of Quantity.

→ An adjectives which tells us how many of a thing is meant is called an adjective of quantity.

An Adjective of quantity answers the question : how much ? For Example :

  • Anshu gave the poor man some food.
  • I have much work to do.
  • Ajay has enough money to buy a pen.

3) Adjective of Number.

→ An adjective which tells us how many persons or things are meant is called an adjective of number.

An adjective of number answer the question : how many ? For Example :

  • The spider has eight legs.
  • Renu has many toys.
  • Vivek gave me all his books.

4) Demonstrative Adjective.

→ The words this that these those and such are adjectives. when I say this pen and that tree, I point out the pen and the tree. The word demonstrative suggests pointing out. Therefore, this, that, these, those and such are called demonstrative adjectives.

A demonstrative adjective answers the question: which one ? For Example :

  • This pen writes well
  • That tree is very big.
  • These boys are intelligent
  • Those men are lazy.

5) Interrogative Adjective.

→ An adjectives which,  when used with a noun, asks a question, is called an Interrogative adjective. For Example :

  • what bird is this ?
  • which book is yours ?
  • whose purse is that ?

6)  Possessive Adjective :

→ An adjective that shows possession or belonging is called a Possessive adjective.

A Possessive adjective answers the question : whose ? For Example :

  • This is my bag.
  • My book is lying on the table.
  • They sold their house.
