The correct answer is  \frac{a+b}{2ab}.

Given: The variables for which mean is to be calculated = \frac{1}{a} and \frac{1}{b}.

To Find: Arithmetic mean.

Solution:

Arithmetic mean of two quantities x and y = \frac{x+y}{2}.

Arithmetic mean of  \frac{1}{a} and \frac{1}{b} will be = \frac{\frac{1}{a}+\frac{1}{b}  }{2}

= \frac{\frac{a+b}{ab} }{2}

= \frac{a+b}{2ab}

Hence, the arithmetic mean of  \frac{1}{a} and \frac{1}{b}  is  \frac{a+b}{2ab}.
