Q6. In an area where lentils are not grown and fish and poultry farming are also not
possible, but sugar cane production is good. Good number of sugarfactories are there and
waste productof molasses in the sugarcane factories needs proper disposal. Human
population of that area has been found, suffering with protein deficiency. What remedies
you can suggest to that population, so that they can get required nutrients, and also get rid
of the waste of factories?

The above problems can be solved by:

Explanation:

  • Molasses:
  1. Rich sources of sugar but are deficient in proteins.
  2. They are the most refined and concentrated form of sugar.
  3. It is mostly used as an agent for sweetening and flavouring food.
  4. These molasses can be used in a bakery to produce various types of sweetened products like cakes, biscuits, sauce, etc.
  • Protein deficiency can be tackled by:
  1. Inter-cropping sugarcane with soyabean plants.
  2. Soyabean is a rich source of proteins.
  3. Again, sugarcane utilises most of the nutrients in the soil and render the soil infertile.
  4. To replenish the soil fertility, soyabean can be grown along with sugarcane.
  5. Soyabean plants replenish the soil nutrients as the roots of the plant can symbiotically interact with the nitrogen-fixing bacteria, Rhizobium, that help to replenish soil fertility.
