Here, Let the age of Basu be $x$ years.

Then, Shaan's age be $2x - 7$ years.

Now, Sum of their ages is 35 years.

So, $x + 2x - 7 = 35$

⇒ $3x - 7 = 35$

⇒ $3x = 35+ 7$

⇒ $x = \dfrac{42}{3}$

⇒ $x = 14$

Hence, Shaan's age will be = $2x - 7$

                                              = $2 \times 14 - 7$

                                              = 21 years

Therefore, We got the age of Shaan as 21 years .
