Answer:

Given:

The two equilateral triangles have sides of length 34cm and 85cm respectively.

To find:

The greatest length tape that can measure the sides of both of them exactly.

Solution:

1) The length of the first equilateral triangle is 34 cm.

The length of the second equilateral triangle is 85 cm.

2) To find the greatest length of the tape to measure it we have to find the HCF  of the sides of the triangle.

HCF[34, 85]

34 = 2×17

85 = 5×17

so the HCF [ 34, 85 ] is 17

The greatest length tape that can measure the sides of both of them exactly is 17 cm

When it is asked that we have to find the greater then you always apply HCF and vice versa.

Find the HCF(216,156)

a=216

b=156

a=bq+r

216=156×1+50

156=50×3+6

50=6×8+2

6=2×3+0

HCF(156,216)=2

Therefore, 2 metre is the greatest length of the measuring tape to measure 216 and 156 metres.
