In a direct democracy for of government, it is the people who vote and decide upon policy initiatives. There are no elected representatives to act on behalf of the citizens. It is not possible to practice direct democracy in the present day world with the population of each country running into millions.

It is not possible to practice direct democracy in the present day world with the population of each country running into millions. It is unfeasible that for each of the policies, any country calls for voting from each of its citizens (who qualify the age limit). Policy making with this kind of system will be chaotic, cumbersome and will take a lot of time.

Answer:

Direct Democracy as the words suggest is a pure form of democracy. In simpler terms, the citizens of the state take the entire decision of running the state. In such cases, the citizens vote on the resolutions and agendas and not for a government body. They are the government. They have the full freedom to operate the state. The idea is to remove inequality and biasness.

Direct democracy even though how nice it sounds, is extremely impossible to implement in real life. With more power comes more responsibilities and not everyone is capable of taking that responsibility. This is how a leader is born who can guide us to the right path. We can choose our leader based on our needs and requirements but running the government without a leader or where everyone is a leader, it is impossible to bring out the best outcomes in such cases. Different people have different point of views and direct democracy will lead to war among ourselves. Hence, it is safe to say that direct democracy can not be practiced in the practical world.
