Answer:
For those who eat a well-balanced diet and have no metabolic disorders, excess dietary carbohydrates are converted by the liver into complex chains of glucose called glycogen. Glycogen is stored in liver and muscle cells and is a secondary source of energy to freely circulating blood glucose

Firstly, they can be stored as glycogen in your liver and your muscles. Glycogen is a polymer of glucose moleculesand is broken down as soon as your blood sugar level drops to low, to supply your cells with energy.
If your glycigen storage is filled up, carbohydrates are converted to fat in your fatty tissue.
Anyway, both mechanisms happen at the same time. As soon as you eat carbohydrates, your muscle and fat cells absorb glucose molecules, triggered by insulin.
