The Happy prince statue stood high over the city on a tall column covered in thin gold leaves.He had two sapphires for eyes and a ruby on his sword hilt.Though the prince seemed happy he wept.For when he was was alive and had a human heart he never knew sorrow, he lived in a palace. In the morning he played with his companions in the garden, and in the evening he led the dance in the Great Hall, he did not know about the misery of his city. He was kind, selfless and giving. Later he befriended a swallow, who was to fly to Egypt and agreed to become his messenger helped him give his precious gemstones and gold leaves to the poor people and help them. Later the swallow died of cold and the happy prince no longer looked beautiful without his gold leaves,sapphires and ruby . The mayor and his town Councillors, The foundry workers melted the statue of the happy prince but his lead heart did not melt, so they threw it in the dust heap with the dead swallow. When God said to one of His Angels to bring him the two most precious things in the city ; and the Angel brought Him the leaden heart and the dead bird.

When the prince was alive, he was a happy man. He lived in the palace and knew nothing of human suffering. His life was full of joy. After his death, his statue was erected on a tall pillar in the city. The statue was entirely covered  with thin leaves of fine gold, she had two bright sapphires for her eyes, and a large red ruby ​​shimmered on the hilt of her sword.  The statue of the happy prince looked beautiful and everyone in town loved seeing their prince. Being placed high above the city on a tall pillar, the prince could witness all the sorrows and sufferings that ordinary people face in their daily lives.
