Q7 in a long distance race, athletes were expected to take four rounds of
the track such that the line of finish was the same as the line of start.
Suppose the length of the track was 200 m.
a) What is total distance to be covered by the athletes?
b) What is the displacement of the athletes when they touch the finish line?
c)ls the displacement of an athlete equal to the distance covered by him at
the end of the race?​

Answer: Okay follow the given steps carefully

Explanation: Well it has been given that the length of the track is 200 m

and is is instructed that the athletes take 4 rounds of the track such that the starting line and the finishing line are the same

so we can say that the athletes begin at the very beginning of the track and run all 200 m and then return back to the start line then we can say that the athletes ran two rounds of the track

but it is said that the athletes need to take four rounds of the track

so after running 200 m and returning to the start line the athletes again run all 200 m and again return to the start line so that all conditions are fulfilled ie the athletes run 4 rounds of the track and the start line is the sme as the finish line

so the total distance covered by the athletes is

first the athletes run 200 m and return to start line so they run ( 200 + 200 m ) = 400 m and once again they do the same so again they run ( 200 + 200 m) = 400 m

so after 4 rounds the total distance covered by the athletes is ( 400+400 m) = 800 m

when the athletes touch the finish line their net displacement is zero (0)

well returning to theory we know that when an object starts a journey and returns to its initial position the displacement of the object is zero

so in this case the athletes return to the line from where they started as the start line is the same as the finish line

so their displacement is zero

and the displacement of the athletes is not equal to the distance covered by them as the displacement is zero whereas the distance covered is 800m as calculated above
