Q8. A vehicle of mass 3000 kg is moving along a straight line with a uniform velocity of 80km/h. Its velocity is
slowed down to 50km/h in 5s by an unbalanced external force. Calculate the acceleration and change in

Hello Mate! Here is your answer:

Given,

Mass (m) = 3000 kg

Initial Velocity (u) = 80 km/hr

= (80*5)/18 m/s

= 22.23 m/s

Final Velocity (v) = 50 km/hr

= (50*5)/18 m/s

= 13.89 m/s

Time Interval (t) = 5 s

So,

u = v-at

= 22.23 = 13.89-5a

= 8.34 = 5a

= 1.668 m/s² = a

Initial Momentum = mu

= (3000*22.23) kg.m/s

= 66690 kg.m/s

Final Momentum = mv

= (3000*13.89) kg.m/s

= 41670 kg.m/s

Change in momentum = mu-mv

= (66690-41670) kg.m/s

= 25020 kg.m/s

Net force = ma

= (3000*1.668) N

= 5004 N

The Retardation is 1.668 m/, The Change in Momentum is 25020 kg.m/s, The Net Retarding Force is 5004 N.

I hope this helps.
