Given:
ax2 – 5x + c
To find:
If the sum and product of zeros of the polynomial ax2 – 5x + c is equal to 10 each, find the value of a and c.
Solution:
From given, we have,
ax2 – 5x + c
equate the above equation to zero, in order to find the value of a and c.
ax² – 5x + c = 0
The sum of the zeros = - b/a
- b/a = 10
- (-5)/a = 10
5/a = 10
⇒ a = 5/10
∴ a = 1/2
The product of the zeros = c/a
c/a = 10
c / (1/2) = 10
2c = 10
⇒ c = 10/2
∴ c = 5
