Answer:

a) x-5y=8,3x+y= -8

x-5y -8=0 ,3x +y +8 =0

By dividing equation 1 by 3 and equation 2 by 1

3x - 15 y -24 =0, 3x +y +8 =0

by substracting equation 1 by

3x -15 y -24 =0

3x +y. +8. =0

(-) (-) (-) =0

-16y - 32 =0

y= -32/16 =0

y = - 2
