Q8) To which orbit will the electron in the hydrogen atom jump on absorbing 12.1 eV of energy?

Answers

Answered by rpk1999
110
energy of electron after absorbing the energy is = -13.6 + 12.1 = -1.5 eV

-13.6 × (z/n)^2 = -1.5
13.6/1.5 = n^2
n^2 = 9 (because electron can exist in only orbit not in between so decimal digits will be removed)
n = √9 = 3
electron will jump in third orbit.

hope this helps.

Electron in the hydrogen atom jump on absorbing 12.1 eV of energy?

Explanation:

  • The energy of the electron after absorbing the energy = 12.1 eV.
  • -13.6 + 12.1  = -1.5 eV
  • 13.6* (z/n)∧2 = - 1.5
  • 13.6/1.5 = n∧2
  • n∧2 = 9
  • Electrons are presented in orbit only
  • n = √9 = 3
  • Now the electrons will be jumped into the third orbit
