Q9.(a) Discuss briefly the effect of temperature on the change of a solid into a liquid and that of

a liquid to a gas.

(b) Explain through an activity that the particles of matters are very small, beyond our

Imagination.

Answer:

a)On heating the particles of a liquid gets more kinetic energy and they start moving more rapidly. The increase in temperature increases the kinetic energy of particles and inter-space between them increases. The change of solid to liquid is called melting. The change of liquid to gas is called the vaporization. ( cycle of change of matter from one state to another in attachment )

b)  Take 2-3 crystals of copper sulphate and dissolve in 100 ml of water. ... Inference : A crystal of copper sulphate contains millions of tiny particles which keeps on dividing into smaller and smaller numbers with each dilution.

c) Take a glass of water .Put some ink in it . And leave it for some time without getting it stirred . After some time what do you observe ? The ink make the whole water turns  blue . This demostrate that Particles of matter are always in random motion . ( See the attachment 2 Activity ).
